What made me read a long post about someone's movie making journey described in believable but painstaking detail? The multiple gushing praises on the CWC mailing list. Thanks to them.
The back and forth in time narration is a bold, risky choice. You have nailed it! The struggle phase and multiple false starts to fame have been captured authentically and with empathy. The pragmatic choices to earn money and to balance family priorities with passion pursuits have been shared with a rare "caring observer" point of view.
Frankly I did not expect a very happy ending to the story, and was okay to have the satisfaction of reading a real story told well. But the way you spring the hug over the chai table and subsequent appreciation of the sensitive handling of a child's trauma... what tears were being held back just gushed out when the promise to keep making art was elicited.
Many superb lines you have crafted. Like the one about fatherless and father, and thoughts and driving in circles... Could I ask that you promise to keep writing and sharing such stories?
Lovely! I love 'caring observer' I put some thought into not misrepresenting facts so I'm happy to take that title. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Fantastic write up Satyajit. This felt like me watching a movie about a movie. The swing between two timeframes was seamless. Kept me engrossed until I finished it. And the connect was the few characters in this write up that I know personally. Great work!
That's lovely to hear, Karthik. I'm super glad that you found the shifts seamless. It was a structure I was trying out and I was itching to hear what readers like you made of it. Relieved and happy!
One of the best pieces I've read in recent memory. Thanks for writing and sharing.
Thank you, Shakti 😊
A very well written piece. Good job!
Thank you Parth :)
